The AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB Review Comment Thread

Good review SKYMTL.

What I do not get is the pricing. I looked to see on Newegg, the RX 470 are same price as the RX 480. Either 4gb or the 8gb same price so why get a RX 470 when you can get a RX 480.
Want to buy one of these new RX, but right now still scratching my head.

Nvidia to me is just a money grabber now.

I think the RX 480 4GB will be sacrificed on the altar in order to force people to get a clearer perspective of the 229$ rx480 and 199 rx 470. AMD and Raja Koduri lied to us, ah yes we'll change the TAM by offering a 199$ card, on a second thought make that 15% more! Which begs the question : is this AMD's new strategy? Lying to people's face for half a year and upping the price at the last minute by 15%? Makes you think what will Zen launch be like? Press samples between Christmas and the New Year just to say they had a Q4 2016 launch? I don't know what am I more disappointed with : nVidia's shenanigans with FE cards or AMD's broken promises. But i guess in the end I'll vote with my wallet like everyone else.

There is no mistake. All of the results were calculated with an updated metric as of the TITAN X review. Maybe that's why. I'll go over the results during this weekend since I need to bloody well AFK after this week from hell.

As for the drivers, it gained in the built in benchmark. I didn't see one iota of difference in the in-game testing. Zero.

No metric can give 20%.

470 34,91 62,22 58,12 47,34
480 38,59 67,78 63,00 50,56
1060 38,04 58,63 56,21 62,51

480 wins in 3 games, in 2 by 12 and 15% and yet, somehow 1060 is 8% faster.

Your "metric" is deeply flawed.

480 4Gb sold for 199$ and its still selling for 199$ when available. Making some baseless accusations about "broken promises"...

Ah, the AMD fans are out for blood!

I trust this site. The reviewers are, in my opinion, impartial and professional. I have trusted this site for years, and visit it at least once a day.

The AMD vs NVidia battle has folks from both side frothing when something happens and reviewers and websites take some time to figure out what is going on. Be it drivers, benchmarks, various tests, etc.

From what I can tell, AMD has a shown that they have designed an architecture that can be enhanced greatly by asynchronous compute. If a DX 12 game, or Vulkan, leverages this, then you will see great gains vs DX 11. NVidia's previous generations do not seem to do async compute well, if at all, and the Pascal architecture seems to support is, but not to the degree same degree of a boost as AMD gets.

Don't you find it bizarre that the same performance scores as in the GTX 1060 review show the Rx 480 as faster. Anyway when you have the time revisit your calculation and make the corrections. As for the RoTR perf thanks for clarifiying that it did not make a difference in game testing.

exactly. Whatever metric SKY is talking about its not mathematically correct.

To insure that no incorrect items are posted I pulled the conclusion chart for the time being. I quickly looked over my functions and didn't find any hiccups but until I delve into it further I'll play the prudent card and insure potentially incorrect info isn't posted.

For the record, that chart didn't impact the conclusion in any way.

Chart has been updated for DX12. I found the source of the error. The function for that cell was reading a result from a different workbook.

Thanks for the heads up!

So when will any of these AMD cards be in stock? Been checking daily and its always out of stock...also where's the custom RX480s at? We keep getting closer and closer to 2017 that i may as well wait for Vega lol.
