    New Mac Pro

rjbarker, welcome to the Apple world! I made the switch to Apple a few years ago for similar reasons to you and it has grown on me. I needed a laptop that would last a solid 7 hrs on a charge for all my back-to-back meetings. I was using a Lenovo at the time with back up battery cells and my...

    mSATA Enclosures

I am looking to purchase a mSATA enclosure to use instead of a USB flash drive. I am currently looking at 2 products. A MyDigitalSSD enclosure that uses a UASP controller or a ZTC Sky Board enclosure that uses a JMicron controller. I intend to use a Crucial M500 mSATA 500GB SSD in the...

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

That's disheartening  As far as the iPad is concern it would mostly be general documents, ebooks, music and photos while traveling. But for my PC work laptop I want to be able to read and write to my file server as if were a local drive also while travelling. Currently it's beyond my...

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

Thanks Lowfat that helps. If I created a Win 8 file server is there a way for that file server to show up as a folder or a drive on other computers like Dropbox does? And how could you access your Win 8 file server with your iPad?

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

No I haven't. Know nothing of them either. I am completely stumped on whether to go with a Win 8, Windows Server Essentials 2012 or a NAS as a file server. What is XFS + RAIDZ? My "must have's" for the file server would be: The ablity to team my LANs to have a min of ~2Gps transfer speeds...

Hard Drive/Storage/ File location issue MBP

I ran Parallels and the same happened to me. I found out after deleting Parallels (manually) that you need to use their uninstaller to properly uninstall and avoid this problem. Seeing as I hadn't used it from the start I had to completly reformat the HDD and reinstall OS X.

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

Would you ever consider a NAS instead in replacement of your server? In other words, if you had to replace yours would you build another server or move to a good NAS and why?

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

Sorry guys, you had answered my questions so I hadn't check back. I have very few Blu-Rays to rip and time is not a factor. I could stick a Blu-Ray in and walk away from it till the next day and so on. My biggest concern was transfer speeds from the server to the clients and was unsure how...

    Breaking 1Gbps

Thanks Lowfat, now I get it. Lowfat, excluding the price factor, would you ever run Windows Server Essentials 2012 over Win8 for a file server and why?

    Server CPU requirements (Intel)

So after being a dedicated MAC guy for a few years now I have decided to build a home server. The main purpose of the server will be ripping Blu-Ray disc as well as storage of the movies, photos and general documents. I plan on running Windows Server Essentials 2012 as an operating system and...

    Apple TV3 plus MKV files?

Apparently the Apple TV 3 is the most secure product yet and hard to crack. As of today, a jailbreak is not yet available but being "worked on".
