The Intel Optane Memory Module Review Comment Thread

Seems to me it'll be perfect for those who put together a budget system now, and want a speed boost somewhere down the road. Intel just have to keep supporting for at least a couple of years.

2nd hand HTPC and Server builds

Depending on what you are planning to do with the HTPC, you might be better served using a Steam Link. If you are using a Windows OS on the server, then the Steam Link effectively can function as a remote terminal for it. It would be a massive saving in power, is completely silent, and is way...

PCIe 4.0 and potentially ditching power cables

Have a look at the pics of the AMD Naples board. It has 4xPCIe8 and 2xPCIe6 power connectors. While AMD has not said word one about PCIe 4.0 for Zen, it's a reasonable bet that they (and Intel) are already working to implement the spec.

    Home Server Solution Help!

You might want to take a look into Stablebit Clouddrive and/or Drivepool. While WinServe16 isn't officially supported yet, Win10 and WinServe2012 are. It also has a free 30 day trial.

    Sub $150 Gaming Headset

I like the Cloud II's that I picked up a couple of months ago. I've received no complaints about the mic, and the "surround" system seems to work okay.

    Intel Skylake i5-6500, i5-6400 & i3-6100 Review (Comment Thread)

Same thing I've said before... Intel, Y U no i3-K? Seriously, Intel could sell shedloads of i3-Ks. Admittedly at the expensive of some i5 sales, but a lower price means they might make it up in volume.

Intel Skylake Non-K Overclocking BIOSes Pulled (Comment Thread)

If anything, this(and the G3258) should show Intel that it could probably do really well with an i3-K. After the success of the G325, I was really surprised that there wasn't a Skylake i3-K.

PC in a desk, am I crazy?

There is always the Lian Li DK series of desk/cases to purchase (for serious $$$) or for inspiration on design and layout.

In laptop hell...need advice for new one

Have you looked at Eurocom? (also Clevo/Sager) The Shark 7 seems to have what you are looking for, except for the Type C/3.1 connector. It even comes out to just around 1600 without SSD, and with BR and OS. Otherwise, you might have to go poking around Lenovo/Dell/Acer sites to see if they...

AData Premier SP550 240GB SSD Review Comment Thread

My parents are getting one of these for Christmas. It was the lowest cost when I...er...Santa... popped into the store.

moving gaming pc to smaller case

My personal preference is for the Precision PS07. But I'd second this if you can find one. Really, just about any mATX case would work fine for you.

    Prices in Canada

Eventually. Key word. Let's not forget the Liberals were only elected 6-7 weeks ago, sworn in a month ago, and had the first sessions of parliament last week. Not much time to do much of anything. Yes, it is more than just "oil", but I figured I'd short hand it. And yes, the Bank of Canada has...

    Prices in Canada

Petro-Dollar. Oil tanks, dollar tanks. Back to how the economy was in 2007. It has little to do with the current Gov't, considering the dollar started dropping in January. All this has happened before, and will happen again. That is all. Good day.

    Advice on 1080p Dota2 machine? I3-6300 + GTX 950 combo

If you don't plan on overclocking, and there are no specific features of that motherboard, you might want to look around for an H170 based Mobo, might save enough to offset going up to an i5.

    GPU for HTPC?

If you aren't looking at gaming, then something like a passively cooled 5450/6450 might be a decent choice.

Question: immersion and FOV, 4K vs ultrawide?

Wrong thinking. Peripheral vision immersion comes from the width(and curvature) of the panel, not from pixel count or even aspect ratio. A higher pixel count merely increases the "realism" level of the image, and a 21:9 ratio merely extends distance between bezels. In a perfect world you would...

    Wanting a new laptop....

I'd go for an XPS15 (pending reviews). 1550 for i5/960/1080p/1TB hybrid/Thunderbolt 3. Sounds pretty good to me.

upgrade path for pcie SSD's and stability in dell xps

NVMe PCIe SSDs for the desktop are here now. Some Z97 and all Z170(and most/all 100 series, IIRC) support NVME PCIe SSDs. So, (budget depending) it's here now. As for the Dell's, I'd bet reviews should be forthcoming shortly, so we should be able to find out then (I'd like to see how the XPS15...

    Multiple PC parts

I'd suggest a two-box solution as well, one for gaming, the other for server duties. Unless you plan on heavy transcoding or other seriously CPU intensive tasks, you could easily use the Pentium for a NAS/HTPC/Media server. Maybe even look into undervolting it for maximum power savings. Windows...
