How to fold with a quad?

The key number to look at when assessing folding performance is the project number ie. 2651/52/63, 2605, 304x/305x are most, if not all the smp project #'s atm. Each project # has its own points level. The number of steps per wu will not usually uniquely identify the project # that the wu is...

    Which CPU for this mobo

Usaully later cpu steppings (ie revisions) means lower voltage (VC= voltage to cpu) for the same oc as previous steppings (G0 is the most current for Q6600 and for most/all current intel quads i think), and sometimes means a higher max OC as well but not guaranteed. Higher VC will increase...

    Which CPU for this mobo

depends how hard you want to oc it ... an AF7 is cheap and will get a G0 stepping q6600 > 3.0 ghz assuming <1.4 VC. There are better ones around for not a lot more but i am not up on the latest models. I also use TT Big Tyhpoons and Sonic Towers on a lot of my quads but with upgraded/dual...

    Next F@H milestone is 400!

Do you mean the licence code? I had that problem with one of my early installs. If so just get a new one from vmware ... i found recently when reinstalling that it does not seem to detect duplicates when i reused some license keys. Also, i think they are case sensitive.

You don't need to install vmware tools to run the server. I run it like that on 7-8 rigs atm. I install the comlpete v 1.0.2 package but just ignore the warnings about the tools. V1.0.3 doesn't like to install on most of my mobos. I have never bothered even trying it and can't see much i...

    Next F@H milestone is 400!

I lost a couple of days out of a quad with my first ever bad stick of ocz memory (some 8500 stuff) ... fortunately a 2gb kit of some super talent 6400 from bilk1 arrived this week so it is back online now. Plus had a hung E6600 win smp wu for a day due to lack of monitoring ... but a power...

Glad to see you back 4Door! Are you bringing some of your smp power back online too? Heating season hasn't quite hit Toronto yet but my furnace has had no reason to come on yet with my electric folding heat. Pete

How to fold with a quad?

It is the second one showing on the top of the download page "Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista text-only console (with built-in Windows-service-install option)" link: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/FAH504-Console.exe The first time you run the client you will configure it and...

    Some questions about F@H

That box will not produce very much but every bit helps. As we move into the colder season the power cost will be offset some by its heating. For monitoring, as enaberif said, fahmon should be sufficient. You just need a share set up to its folding directory from you main rig, and run fahmon...

    Progress report E6400

Did you try setting your ram timings to auto? It might loosen them (and the other settings) even more.

About to build a new system

All the current gigabyte intel chipset mobo's with an R on the end indicate ich8r or 9r. And to say raid serves no purpose on a desktop mobo is very untrue ... try to recover your data when your only hard drive has failed! My main work at home rig uses raid 5+0 and my backup main rig runs...

About to build a new system

Giga p35-ds3l works well oc'ing my quads as a dedicated folding rig and <$100. If you want raid, p35-ds3R oc's as well or maybe slightly better than the ds3l, and has a little better cooling. Intel chipset mobo's are prolly gonna oc the best, and certainly the easiest. I used to use mostly...

    Canadian Overclock Database

An alternative stability standard could be folding SMP on dual cores or quads. It usually runs for days anyway (724 for me) and will find instabilities that multi p95 or orthos won't even tho they drive higher temps than folding. OC's will usually be ~5 fsb lower than p95/orthos stable.

    Core2 overclocking

I am sure if you raised the multi too high it won't post. From what i have seen, the highest oc's from these extreme cpus is normally at a lower multi than the defaults.

    Core2 overclocking

Without an extreme model you can only lower the cpu multi within the supported range. On a 6600 default is 9 and you can lower it to 7 on most mobos manually. If speedstep (aka eist) is enabled it will lower vc and multi automatically under low load to save energy and reduce heat. You want...
