Comment and Update Thread for EVGA 8800GT Review

The term is used for shorting out the green "PS_ON" pin with a ground pin. This causes the ATX power supply to power on. It's not a recommended way of powering devices, but a quick test to see if the power supply will turn on.

    MORE NVidia Betas 169.04

Under Vista 64, these drivers did correct a 3D corruption problem that I experienced while playing the Crysis demo. To me, that is the only thing these beta drivers have fixed.

Comment and Update Thread for EVGA 8800GT Review

You'll have to clarify, as I am unsure if you plan to power the video card by using an ATX power supply with no other components? The 8800GT (G92) is a fairly power efficient GPU, but to power it alone with an ATX power supply would require the "paper-clip" technique.

Well, the ironic part of your comment is that DX10 games bring hardware to its' knees. Allow me to take that comment with a grain of salt. My roommate has a similar spec to my system, except he has XP 32-bit, 2GB of RAM, and an 8800GTS 640MB. The game still took his hardware for a ride...

    Crysis demo

Also bare in mind that this is an EA title, and EA does put games that have a tendency to "bog" a system. I've played other DX10 titles like Lost Planet and they do not bring the GTX to it's knees. :dots:

Looking for a new Mouse (Not a Razer)

Another flaw with the G7 is the batteries being DOA. I've caught that a few times. I'm surprised that you don't like the Razer mice. I found my 3G to be better than the Habu, and I find the Logitechs to be a bit too heavy.

He's right about that. With Vista 64 and my GTX, I had to disable AA to get acceptable framerates. The resolution was set to 1680x1050 with all settings at "High". I was getting between 10-30 fps.

    Build a new rig

From what I understand, nVidia is planning to axe the GTS and GTX and keep the GT and Ultra. I have seen the scores of the 8800GT, but they look to be a bit far fetched.
