    I'm looking for a small SSD to use as the boot drive in an old laptop. SATA2 is fine and 60GB should be enough but I'd consider a cheap 80GB or 120GB drive.

    Yep, the Tyan s8812 has lots of LEDs if you don't disable them. I keep them off because I run mine unobtrusively on top of my refrigerator in the basement.

    I think the recommendation is to disable PowerNow to increase performance slightly. PowerNow lets the CPUs drop bellow 2Ghz when they are not fully loaded I would guess and then they take some time to get back to full frequency which impacts performance.
