As I see it, with the new MSI GTX460 / eVGA GTX460 (high-end OC'd cards), the GTX470 just becomes irrelevant (not to mention the GTX465 fiasco). This is very good for the customer, specially people like myself:
- GTX 470 pricing will fall to about ~220/250, permitting affordable SLI + Physics (I...
Just make sure the UD-7 is not the new one (rev.2), as this is a downgraded Mobo (it's basically an UD-5 in disguise)...
Typical GB move. I personally would stay away form all their Mobo's. Sloppy, very Sloppy; and very badly designed ... everything seems like an afterthought.
Is it just me, or are there some very serious issues with this mount??
Namely: How do you fit the GPU's (specially the rally long ones like 5970/480/470/5890)??
@thomasg76
Assembled four systems with UD3-R's - they are so cheap that everybody was buying them - and had nothing but trouble with all of them...and am still having problems (loss of DDR configurations, problems with RAID, various BIOS issues, SLI and dedicated PhysX...and on ,and on...). Now...
I did recommend G.Skill PI series. Just mentioned the Crucial Kit because it's a very flexible and compatible kit, and the price difference is abysmal...
If the build should start going over budget I think They are a good option (even if temporary). They won't compromise the build in any way...
750W are more then enough for two GTX 460 in SLI. You'll have plenty of headroom left. You'll only need 1000w+ PSU's if your going for a GTX 480 SLI configuration.
As for the Mushkins, you are right. My mistake looked at another kit that was CAS 9. I still have a preference for G. SKILL, just...
I'd definitely go with the 17 930. Socket 13666 will upgrade to much faster CPUs (up to the 980x Extreme). As they get cheaper, in the near future, you'll just have to buy the CPU.
Case - I'd buy the HAF X instead. More room to work with, better cooling.
DD3 Triple Chanel - Think G. Skill PI...
Looks good to me, just a few changes I would make:
- MSI N460GTX CYCLONE 1 GD5 instead of the Palit (MSI uses better components - you won't be at risk of having "bad luck" with an under performing card).
- G. SKILL PI series Model F3- 12800CL6T (Cas Latency 6); or G. SkILL PI series Model F3-...
