Yeah, tinkercad is pretty good for relatively simple designs, especially once you get the hang of aligning different parts together.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there's a good chance somebody's already done the work and uploaded a design to thingiverse, and if there isn't something that's exactly what you want you can always find something close and adapt it to your needs.

yup thingiverse is pretty good spot, i also peruse the prusa printables (if it's even still called that any more) as there are some good stuff there too.

the Hobbyist/Personal use tier of fusion360 is also pretty decent as well.

Yup I looked and didnt really see what I was after. Anyway I finally went to the office and test fit my prototype, and it fit like a glove. So printing 3 good quality versions now to send onsite and install! Definitely a handy tool to have!

Got some .6 nozzles in and am printing my first .6 print (mount for a ruckus PoE).

The difference in slice times between the .4 and the .6 was 30 minutes off of a 2 hr print for a .2 layer height.

On the subject of .6 vice .4.... I'm liking the big fat lines being laid down on the first layer. I strongly suspect having an extra 50% width will aid in adhesion.

As far as using the printer as a tool for things around the house goes... definitely my number 1 reason for recommending a printer.

My latest was a set of brackets to hold an AC hose to the window panel after the tabs on the tube ring broke....

Those slide down 3 long bolts attached to the panel and secure the ring. Works like a charm!

Another thing I've noticed on the new Cura slices is that it's rounding off internal wall corners (as in corners adjacent to infill). I guess that saves time by allowing a continuous perimeter line rather than individual side lines. I suspect it will also result in stronger wall joints.

Fingers crossed that these two parts will mate together.... (Just starting to print off the base).

If the tolerances are too close I'll just bump the top's "void" by half a mm on each side.

Worked as expected, although the joint has a lot more slop than I expected.

I'll probably re-print it in white (waiting on a new roll of filament to come in) to match the itx build I'm doing on my open air case, and to contrast against the black components.

Not a lot of brands on there currently, but would be great if this caught on.
My buddy at work is using a resin printer for some similar things. Mostly his Warhammer 40k stuff.

Apparently its uber-cheap. And he showed me the quality. For small-ish sized items (I think his printer is an 20cm cubed bath) its great.
