3D Printer / CNC discussion thread

3 month check-in on my Bambu Labs P1S.

Still really happy with it. I've replaced the nozzle with a hardened steel one (I ordered a .6 as well, but am still working with the .4) and replaced the feeder gear with the upgraded model. I've also added a Bigtreetech Panda touch and Panda Lux.

I'm still standing by my initial impression that it just works out of the box, even to the point that I'm comfortable turning the printer on remotely and sending a print job to it expecting that I'll get the print I want when I go down to get the finished product. Printing is fast, and the AMS gives me a selection of different filament types and/or colours. Even the Makerworld ecosystem has impressed me with it's all inclusive design where print profiles are attached to the models and you just select your printer model + preferred filament to send it to the printer.

Happy with my choice. :)

Building a railing and wanted 3 9/16 on center spacing to get the look we agreeded on (code is typically max 4in opening). Not something I really wanted to measure out a few dozen times between top and bottom. So a few minutes in tinkercad quickly made up a jig for drilling the hole spacing I wanted. Two 1/8th holes spaced exactly how I wanted and a snug fitment on the strips gives me my consistent spacing without having to measure and mark this over and over.

I won't post the end result since it has personal information on it related to where I live but somewhere I messed up the x-offset so all the letters are a little low on the board. For a first try with lettering the EstlCAM software was annoying but serviceable.

The dewalt ultra-sonic shopvac (the costco one) is actually on and running in this clip, it is completely drowned out by the router and suction noises. With the other shopvac, the big yellow one that wasn't an ultra-sonic the vacuum was the loudest thing in the room.

Nice! It's amazing how quiet the StealthSonic vacuums are, I wish I could get the same thing for our built-in that scares the crap out of me a couple times a month when someone starts vacuuming inside while I'm in the garage.

Edit: Went down the rabbit hole. There are central vacuums that are <65 db now. If our house wasn't up for sale it would be high on the list of things to replace.

I just received my first spools of PETG. Anyone have the PLA to PETG "Coles Notes"? Bed temp/nozzle temp/other differences I should be aware of before the first print with it?

What printer? Try just using the profiles already created for your printer. My Prusa and A1 never had any issues printing PETG. Some print surfaces may need a 'release agent' like glue stick otherwise they'll damage the bed when trying to remove the print.

Basic Aquila (Ender 3 clone). I will give that a shot and see how it goes.

Solid easy advice. Is glue stick essential with petg. I have never had to use anything on the bed for adhesion or release so far (though obviously only pla so far).

I haven't needed to use it, but it can be difficult to get off of certain print surfaces, especially single layer lines (like brims or the pre-print nozzle clearing line).
