I am think of looking for a 4090. Does anyone think that $1500 would be enough?

Looking on FBM Vancouver, I see people asking at least $2600 and one asking for $3K. At least a few asking to trade 5090FE for 4090+$1K, so these are probably Chinese re-sellers to turn them into 48GB AI cards.

Thanks for the input!

There is one in the WPG FB Marketplace for $2000. I wonder how much lower they'd go!

If you aren't in a panic, I'd consider waiting until the Super series comes out, or even the new AMD GPU's that are rumored for end of year. These should drive prices down for the 4090 as the 5070 and 5070ti are supposed to get pretty significant bumps in VRAM.

Man I hope the AMD GPUs make it for the holidays and put some actual pressure on Nvidia, both to see AMD's dismal market share expand and to see some actual price pressure.

If AMD puts out an actual competitor to the 5090, or even close, then that's likely my next buy. I'll dump the 4080 and happily steer clear of NVidia.

MILD did rumor a 9800XT is in the works with 24GB of VRAM using 3GB chips. The projected launch date is end of 2025 which could mean it's timed to go against the 50 Super.
