5060Ti 8GB vs 16GB - a modern look at 8GB limitations

Watched it. I think hard to argue with their conclusion that an 8 GB GPU in 2025 shouldn't really even exist, let alone be purchased by anyone even for 1080p gaming. 12 GB should be the new minimum.

The fact that NVIDIA named it exactly the same, 8 GB to 16 GB version, I can see it feels a bit scummy, but I don't think that bugs me too much. I expect the average consumer will still look at the box and realise that 16 is bigger than 8. The trick is them knowing how much it matters and not thinking 8 is a "deal".

I think a person would just be better off buying a game box like Xbox or ps box it is probably cheaper.
The way gaming seems to be going at least for myself games are very lazy coding so much ram gets used up pretty fast unless playing 1080p, because of the games I like to play I wouldn't buy any Graphics card that isn't at the very least 16GB I actually impulsed bought a very expensive new rx 7900xtx vid card just because it had 24gb and even thought it was to me way over my price range still cheaper than an Nvid card with around the same amount of ram ( probably my Birthday Xmas present for the next few years lol) .
that first game this guy tested look at the vram usage just while the test is walking through to its around 12gb now imagine the person was to fight around water and mass mobs and allot going on that card would jump up and lag out , I would love to start seeing testing on Ark survivor ascended like on some maps even the first Island map near water at even 1080p the ram usage would be pretty high just standing near some areas or when loading a new area the ram would be way up ro 12-14 gb vram . That game now I used along with Cyber punk 2077 running around are decent for testing vid cards for me .
I think that the average gamer would be playing 1440p now days. and now that I read what I just wrote I seemed to have become a bit of a Snob, and I am embarrassed of this .

My 6800xt is still a great card, but I was caught off guard buy a simple game that used up all my video ram while fighting a boss of course I had everything set on the highest setting, but the game shouldn't have used up all that ram, then the fact that when playing Ark Survivor ascended I have to turn everything down made me start to think it was time to upgrade

Basically confirms previous 8GB testing. The texture just doesn't load correctly and it looks like ass. The 1% are bad and it jerks like crazy. I wonder if people will sue them for deceptive marketing if the box doesn't show 8GB correctly. What HUB brought up is scary regarding SI selling systems. People just don't know the difference and only look at the price.

I couldn't watch through the whole thing...but from what I did, the TDLR is that the 8GB @ 4K is lucky to stay around 30fps while the 16GB cruises along at 60+.
Actually it is more than that. The issues don't only appear at 4K and goes against people's previous thought that 8 GB limits only matter at 4K. As moocow said, that video shows a great example for the Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine game. Texture flickering and quality is terrible.

I wasn't paying attention to the entire video (I usually have it on the side monitor) but my brain's conclusion is that the card barely runs 1080P without lowering to a medium preset for modern games. It looks like textures now are at least 9GB to 10GB so 12GB may not cut it by next year. Upscaling itself require VRAM so 8GB just can't cut it and I suspect AMD 9060 8GB will suffer the same problem.

even at FHD?

What he ^^^ said :)
I too was working and watching the video on my second monitor, paying most attention to the 4K and 1440p bits, but there were pain points at 1080p too. Honestly, no one should buy an 8 GB GPU at this point. Even on a tight budget, if you're gaming, I'd save money somewhere else and try to get a 16 GB card.

Yes.

I still think an 8GB card can be a thing, but it shouldn't be anywhere near 5060Ti price or performance level. A $200USD ish GPU where people expect to turn a couple settings down, or for an esports build it would likely be fine for years yet (a 50 class GPU?)...or maybe a vanilla 5060 if it had its pricing dialed back a bit. But for any PC gamer spending more than that, 8GB is just too limiting now.
