Got the new reference 7900 XT installed, replacing my 6800 XT. Performance jump is quite nice at 4K (avg over 70 fps with higher quality settings and frequently between 90-100 fps in Space Marine 2) and temps are better than the 6800 XT. Both of those are expected but still nice to see in real life.
The install was easy and the 7900 XT fit in my case fine and worked with the vertical GPU mount too. Had to dremel out another PCI slot divider at the back because the DisplayPort connectors are separated by a USB-C port on the GPU and that moved the one DisplayPort just low enough to be blocked.
Only thing I didn’t know prior to buying is that the reference 7900 XT doesn’t appear to have any LED lighting at all, not even the Radeon lettering. That is fine in my setup as it is vertically mounted as I said. And I do love how clean and simple the card looks. It does have a very nice backplate so horizontal mounting would show that off if I ever switched it.
Anyway, pleased. Man new tech is fun! Couple pics:
Out with the old…
…And in with the new! Sleek!
And being able to stick with the two 8-pin connectors for power made the upgrade very easy.
That sleek black though is making me want to switch out the white fans and lose the white accents for an all dark build… darn it…
