Got the new reference 7900 XT installed, replacing my 6800 XT. Performance jump is quite nice at 4K (avg over 70 fps with higher quality settings and frequently between 90-100 fps in Space Marine 2) and temps are better than the 6800 XT. Both of those are expected but still nice to see in real life.

The install was easy and the 7900 XT fit in my case fine and worked with the vertical GPU mount too. Had to dremel out another PCI slot divider at the back because the DisplayPort connectors are separated by a USB-C port on the GPU and that moved the one DisplayPort just low enough to be blocked.

Only thing I didn’t know prior to buying is that the reference 7900 XT doesn’t appear to have any LED lighting at all, not even the Radeon lettering. That is fine in my setup as it is vertically mounted as I said. And I do love how clean and simple the card looks. It does have a very nice backplate so horizontal mounting would show that off if I ever switched it.

Anyway, pleased. Man new tech is fun! Couple pics:

Out with the old…

…And in with the new! Sleek!

And being able to stick with the two 8-pin connectors for power made the upgrade very easy.

That sleek black though is making me want to switch out the white fans and lose the white accents for an all dark build… darn it… ;)

I like the contrast. Far from all black, I'd be tempted to swap the black cables out for white, sleeved ones.
The cables are custom ones from my custom loop days. They are actually a gunmetal greyish colour in person. You’re right though, mixing in a bit more white would look decent too.

Last night I tried turning on AMD HYPR-RX for Space Marine 2 via Adrenaline. Left all in game settings the same.

Result? Visual quality looks the same or very near the same to my eyes, but my avg FPS recorded by Adrenaline went from 72 FPS on Quality set in Adrenaline to 109 FPS !!

I'm guessing how good or bad using HYPR-RX looks will vary based on the game, but I am certainly going to be trying it in games to see results, given how much of a jump it provided in avg FPS. I was quite surprised.

Apparently turning on HYPR-RX, if supported by a game, enables and tunes the following settings:

- AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag
- AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2
- AMD Radeon™ Super Resolution
- AMD Radeon™ Boost
- AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution
