before silicon got advanced enough and small enough, there was no space to put the power bits inside the LCD frame...so external power bricks. now it's not necessary...but I suspect this particular model is so thin and slim, doing so wasn't feasible. interesting, none-the-less.most people only ever left them strapped to the back of the panel anyways, they were never really popular and were usually not what went wrong with the monitor. I don't recall the last one i unboxed with a power brick. But most part bricks like that are pretty generic just need to match plug and output with expected input.
