alright thanks i thought the G92 512 was better. What would be the next step up from the 8800gts (G92) 512mb?

The next step up from the 8800GTS G92 would be the 9800GTX or a GX2 although they don't offer major performance gains they do offer more features from Tri-Sli, HDMI support and Hybrid SLI. I think it would be the smart choice to stick with the your GTS and wait and see what nVidia has to offer when it releases its next generation graphics cards, I think most of us were all very dissappointed with the 9 series release because it didn't really impact performance like the previous 8800GTX and 8800Ultra when they were released.

Depends on your monitor and the resolution you're aiming for. If you're trying to run 2500x1600 on a 30", it might be worthwhile. I game at 1920x1200 on my 24" mostly, the only 2 games I've had to scale back with my 8800GT were Crysis and World in Conflict.

512mb is more than enough for today graphic cards. You will not get any gain in performance for any extra mb over this, and if you get some, it will not worth the extra cost. Better to look for the highest ram frequency, it will give you more gain than extra ram.

edit: Like SugarJ said, it's true that it depends of your screen size, but under 24", I think more than 512mb is useless.

Although this is true for most games but some games like Crysis can use 800 mb of ram.

The 8800 GTS 512 mb is a great card but at this point in time I would wait 1 month at max because rumors say that new GPU's come out next week.

8800gts 640mb > 8800gts 512mb

I upgraded from a single 640MB right to the new 512MB around xmas....the new G92 core beats the 640MB hands down, in Crysis, 3Dmark06 ect.. I like it so much I just went SLi with 2 G92 GTS's 2 months ago.
