read online somewhere about a stink concerning different series of the same monitor.

apparently there are "A" "C" and "S" models of the 206 bw by samsung.

most places said to go for the "S" models

i looked at mine and it says 206BW W

does anyone know who makes the lcd panel for the "W" series??

Its the 226BW

The monitor your thinking of is the 226BW not the 206BW. There's threads all of the web about this. From what I've been reading so far, owners of all A, S, and C models have experienced fantasticcdisplay quality, with the odd person disatisfied.

Really though, I think the whole thing is alot is a joke. Anyone who has a 226BW can let you know for sure I guess tho.

don't even start on that debate as it totally irritates me! With any product you buy on the market there is always gonna be 1 or 2 that isn't happy and cause a huge stink.

People have bought the A,C, and S panel and been very happy!

I had the 226BW "C" panel
Great for the net... great for games... complete and utter garbage for movies (the reason I bought it)
It's my opinion and thus subjective but, for me, compared to my 26" and 52" TV as well as a 22" CRT and 19" LCD monitor the 226BW was not watchable for movies - my experience... Your mileage may vary.

It's basically an indication of who made the LCD panel:

A = AU Optronics (Taiwan)
C = Chi Mei Optoelectronics (China)
S = Samsung (Korea)

Samsung is generally considered the best, AU Optronics the next best, and Chi Mei Optoelectronics considered the worst of the 3.

I don't have the 226 but many people have used the A,C, and S panels and no complaints. People just read into too much hype and listen. Just buy it and make your own conclusions.
