Work in progress Adam makes poor financial decisions build

Did a temporary hookup of the cpu, ram, ssds and gpu to test out the parts. Used a cheap thermalright assassin I picked up before I start messing with the watercooling.Everything was working until I updated the bios and enabled DOCP (or whatever it's called. The AMD version of XMP).

Something broke and my windows is corrupted. Going to have to start from scratch and reinstall windows I think. Wish I had a little second monitor to use with this rather than switching inputs on my monitor.

I don't mess with that DOCP or XMP anymore. It takes a little longer to manually set the ram but it seems to work better for me. Something isn't quite right with the XMP presets imo.

I'm running DOCP, haven't had issues, but this is my first AMD processor in a very long time.

I was surprised, it hasn't worked right in my last 3 builds.

One was a 5950x with the royal memory 32gb/4000mhz. Total fail. Corrupted OS etc.

2nd was a 5800x build with the 32gb/ 3600 NEO ram. Wouldn't load windows at all.

3rd was a 3600+ with 16gb/3600 memory. Same problem as the 2nd build.

So I just don't bother with it anymore.

Interesting. Those are good RAM sticks, and mine are nothing too fancy. I wonder does the motherboard manufacturer matter? I'm on ASUS.

It definitely had something to do with the DOHC settings. Downclocked the ram to like 6400 or something and didn't change any other settings and it all worked fine.

Next I'll try putting in the timings manually and see how that plays out. I'd like to get the 7200Mhz the ram is rated for and according to buildzoid the current batch of x670 firmwares support overclocking really well.

I probably should have gone for explicitly 'ryzen supported' RAM like I did in my 5900x build, but I've got time to mess around with this one so it's not the end of the world.

I had the 2700x/5800x running 32GB 3200 CL 16 and with the 5950x 64GB 3600 CL16 both with simply the profiles and no drama just worked. I however intentionally avoided anything higher than 3600MHz when I got rid of the 3200 sticks.

But setting all of that manually afterwards worked?

Yep no problem. Manually set the memory to 3600 and done. I could probably tweak the ram and tighten the timings but I honestly couldn't care.

Well playing with the timings doesn't seem to be working very well. Might have to go on the overclocking reddit and corsair forums for some help. I'm outside the return window too unfortunately.
