the Jonsbo Ncase N3 was not cheap shipping was nearly $115 but I managed to not have to pay any fees on it.

Yeah, it seems to be luck of the draw whether Customs decides to apply duty/taxes.

What shipping method did they use to get it up your way? Did it come CP?

So.... no "duty", just HST on the declared value (which was legit) and a fixed rate of $9.95 for the handling (brokerage).

(And holy cwap!!!!!! Is this keyboard base ever freaking heavy!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) )

Good to know. I haven’t ordered anything that expensive yet, but anything is possible.

Second keyboard has also been hit with taxes / brokerage as well, but for some reason this one won't let me pay online so I guess I'll have to wait for the mailbox notification and then go to pick it up at the post office to pay.

Might have something to do with the tracking number looking like a usps one?

Surprisingly the CP parcel dude was able to take payment at the door. I figured I was going to have to wait until tomorrow for it to be processed at the local Shopper's CP.

Not aliexpress, but similar issues getting stuff in from the US without being hit with crazy duties/brokerage fees (especially after the fact).

Ordered some keycaps from Omnitype and they used globalpost international. I think they're one of those services that uses whatever shipping method is cheaper for them at the time so YMMV, but in this case it shipped via USPS so it slipped through customs unscathed, but worst case scenario would have been applicable taxes + CP's $9.95 flat rate brokerage.
