Yesterday got dinged for the first time on an AliExpress order. This is also the most expensive single item I have ordered through their site so far so might have something to do with it. Usually it is smaller cheaper items.

Found a marked down self centering rotary axis that I can use with both the laser and CNC to be able to do round things like etch travel mugs or say spindles and smaller table legs

Was it a large/heavy box?

The only thing(s) I've ever been dinged on have been my M1 barebones keyboards. Not sure if that was because of the heft, or because the listed single item value was north of $100.

Box hasn't actually showed up yet, pre-payment requested by DHL (so i'm not sure about heft/size but it shouldn't be overly large/heavy). But first time I ever ordered anything north of $100, most expensive items before now were around the 40 area like a digital microscope that I picked up for the kids and I to share. They can use it to look at whatever they want and I can use it on occasion to be able to help with some surface mount soldering. (Actually really impressed by the microscope considering how cheap it was)

They undervalued the shipping value. The box actually had some heft to it. Metal plates etc.

There's the main reason you're getting dinged..... the "smaller cheaper items" you usually get are probably delivered by Canada Post, which will sometimes charge taxes, depending on value, but DHL will charge for damn near anything.

My larger items (that I got dinged for) did come through CP but it amounted to a token brokerage fee ($9.99 I believe) + applicable sales taxes. I didn't get the full DHL treatment.

If you hunt around often there will be 2 general prices on a lot of things. I bought a bundle of narrow throat mechanical carpenter pencils and leads to go with them. There were listing that were $5 cheaper... but then they tacked on $6 shipping. Sometimes it is cheaper to hunt a little more and double check even more expensive listings and all them all to you cart. It makes it easier to review the total shipping charges and you don't need to do the actual math.

Even this tool for the CNC/Laser. There were listings $40 less but then $60 extra shipping charges. (DHL fee was <$20)

I have not but that is an insanely good price, I'd love to know how it turns it if you buy those as I wouldn't mind saving money where I can on filament.
