All Metal Fan?

on the point of thin itx, they could be interesting in a 1u rack but I think the high air pressure from more than a dozen skreaming 40mm fans running at deafening speeds pointed right at it might actually cause side effects.

Actually I wouldn't compare 1U server stuff with thin ITX. Typically those 1U servers are their own form factor, not standardized, and not for the same uses as thin-ITX. But I'd still think there are better options that this strange cooler, like a lump of cooper, two or fewer heatpipes and a regular LP fan. Or the Noctua 9L.

thats a very crude design lol i wa0 sthing if the ihs sat inside the heatsink but the mid was were all the heatpipes intersected and went into a fin stack. just wondering why this was never really ever considered, itd have far more contact with direct heatsource, or would it insulate more as the draw back?

Horizontal heatsinks work better than heatsink vertical ones.

For the fluid transfer heat into gas to finned area

Centrifugal fans often have issues keeping good airflow as they get taller. But if they were able to maintain it while growing this 1 cm taller (around the height of the next shortest), I wonder how it would perform?

I think the issue was likely getting good heat transfer into the fan.
