AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT reviews

The only option for a 6800 xt owner is a 7900 xtx imo. But you would have to decide if you even need that much performance. I'm still getting over 100fps in games I play on a 34" UW with a 6800 xt

I have pondered the 7900 XTX since I'm paired with a 4K screen, but still just too much money to justify. But perhaps another used upgrade path for me in future. Used has served me well now for several gens!

I pondered selling my 6800 XT and getting a 7800 XT before these reviews came out, but certainly doesn't make sense given the performance similarities.

I don't think it will clobber anything, but it is definitely going to have an impact on new.


For a Canadian perspective (compared to all the reviews having USD listings), the following is what I found with a quick look (cheapest model that I found for each in CAD):

7700 XT - $620
7800 XT - $700 (EDIT - I just posted in hot deals that an XFX version is on amazon for $670)
6800 - $650 - no way it will move without a drop vs new products
6800 XT - $732 - same as above
6700 XT - $450 - put here only because it is just a touch slower than the below 4060 Ti - not a stand out - less for less.
4060 Ti 8gb - $530 - not crazy vs the above cards at current prices - though still not really a stand out
4060 Ti 16gb - $670 - an absolute joke (IMO) that should be totally ignored vs any of the other options within this price range
4070 - $790 - not comparatively crazy, but more money/slower/less vram than 7800XT. Puts a pretty heavy nvidia tax on it that I wouldn't pay

AT THOSE PRICES, I feel like the 7800XT is the best choice. So it isn't really a ground breaking release, but it is a reasonable option.

EDIT - with the $670 price on amazon for the 7800XT it is an easy pick from this group in my opinion.

EXACTLY!!! Will quite likely be building a new 'puter for the bro-in-law, soonish, and had been leaning towards a RTX 4070, but being able to save at least $100, AND get better performance(ignoring DLSS and raytracing), seems like a 'no-brainer'.

And I do really think that FSR 3 will close the gap with DLSS, or at least current DLSS. AMD is just slow getting there it seems, but they have to implement a more competitive solution I think sooner rather than later.

Raytracing is of less interest to me, but depends on the gamer of course.

I just want a GPU, onboard or dedicated, that can run 4K content at 60fps as a minimum. I don't game anymore, so that's not a factor for me, but the pain and suffering trying to run a 4K video on Intel's HD 530, it's a crime!!!

Showing 7700XT now has one Gigabyte option available at a slightly cheaper $610. 7800XT...appears to be sold out in Canada across all retailers. I wonder if it was low launch day supply at the retailers or high demand. I am guessing the former, but specific to available at retailer, since there must be lots of stock produced by now with the delayed launch.
