Retailers are starting to post the AM5 hardware in Canadian prices. At 1k for a 7950x I'm not about to retire the 5950x anytime soon especially considering the additional costs of MB and ram. But that 7600x is already backorderd.

Edit: $1700 for MSI Godlike board and lots of others in the 500+ range.

Edit: Newegg and others showing inventory this morning as well but prices are similar/same.

Imagine paying $1700 for not only a motherboard but an MSI motherboard 😄
And you can throw a $2K video card on that and have a real bargain! :)

This hobby, at least for the upper tier, has gone beyond what's comfortable for my hobby budget. I still want the new tech, but living at least a gen or two behind makes sense for me at this point. No complaints about people who can buy. Enjoy it to the full!! I just would like prices to moderate to some degree. I can remember when iirc Half Life 2 ended up costing me $600 taxes in for an upgrade and that was pretty much everything and I thought that was crazy! I know, we're not in Kansas anymore...

Yeah... motherboard prices have been creeping up for quite a few years now.... it's getting hard to find a decent $200(ish) board that isn't either a 4 yr old chipset, or a bare bones budget MB with few features.

It feels a lot like the "what happened to $500 flagship vid cards?" thing we went through (and now flagship vid cards are a lot closer to $1500 :( )

Yea took a look at the prices at MemEx and it showed the cheapest at $350 with the highest being that Godlike $1750.

Hell the Asus Hero board is $900. The cheapest X670E board I can see is the Asus TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS for $425. That is just way too high if you ask me.

These motherboard prices are just crazy.

Honestly I haven't been following the motherboard tech that much leading up to this launch, until you guys brought it up.

Although the pricing is bonkers, what is the new tech that's driving such a huge jump in prices? Is it DDR5? Some higher PCI-E spec? What's the deal? 🤔
