HUB did a quick comparison between some of the F suffix Ryzen 5 from AMD. While the 8400F sounds newer due to the model name, it actually performs worst than the 7500F. It got less L3 cache and actually released before then 7400F. If you got an itch for a budget CPU and looking on Aliepxress, steer clear of the 8400F as the 7400F isn't a lot more expensive.

Not surprising, since the 8000 series is all based on different silicon for APUs (hence the cut back features/cache), but good info. Absolutely agree that almost everyone should go for any of the other ryzen 5 CPUs tested instead.

It would only be the uber budget minded people scraping every dollar just to get on AM5 that could consider it (if the price delta is big enough to make its performance deficit “acceptable”.

Aliexpress is having a sale on 8400F for $150 CAD while it's closer to $200 in Canada. The 7600 (non X) is $250 on BB. Used 7600 (non X) on Aliexpress is about $225. Given the difference in performance, I think $50 extra is worth it. Then again you could buy 16GB of RAM for $50.
