I know a several of you have Thermalright fans in your builds. Since I just bought the Phantom Spirit and am moving towards a more blacked out build I am looking for some cheaper decent fans, and these would all match the new cooler, minus the RGB function, that I don’t want anyway.

Any reason not to get these? Price seems really good:

From Amazon - TL-C12C x5

Or if I decided to go 140mm x2 in the front and three of the 120mm ones for top and rear:

From Amazon - TL-C14C

But the 5 for $23.90 seems crazy hard to beat and not sure there would be much benefit of 140mm up front for the additional cost.

Dude, I have like 40 TR fans, only had a problem with 1, not even sure if it was a real problem.. made a rattle sound, but I was running like a whole case off of one header lol..

They are decent fans. They have a nice sound too.

Edit:

Rattle went away when fan got more power :D

all the ones I used are tl-c12c-s (3 packs), which I think are the just an argb variant of the 120mm you shared. Not sure if there is any difference otherwise between them. Between 2 builds I have used 9 of them I think. No issues with them in 1+ years (knock on wood) for the first of them. I am sure there is better for much more $, but I have no complaints and would continue to buy them. My fan curves typically have them in the 750-1200 (max…almost always less) range.

Edit - plus the ones on the coolers, which may be the same model as well.

I've used them in several builds without any kind of issues. You can't beat the price, and they're decent performers.

As I mentioned in another thread, fan profile is everything when it comes to noise.

I used the "B" and "K" models as they have S-FDB bearings and kinda look like Gentle Typhoons and have a pretty large RPM range. Seem to work well and aren't overly noisy.

I had picked the "S" models over the "C" versions as I feel like I found some people saying they changed the "C" over its production run and made it worse. But I can't quite remember fully now.

Perhaps one differentiator too is that all the ones I've bought have "Thermalright" embossed into the frame, either on the front/back or the side.

It's a bit hard to navigate as they have so many models and so many storefronts on Amazon too.

Thanks guys. That’s great info. I knew they were used by forum folks, I remember most who used them :) but I just couldn’t find all the threads by searching. Thanks for humouring another fan thread!

Sorry to be the downer in the thread, but I'm just not a fan (minor pun intended) of cheaping out on parts. The thermalright fans are okay, they're not Bad fans per se, but you can get a Lot better for not much more money at all.

Quickly checking... yeah. A 5x pack of Arctic P14 140mm PWM fans is $60 on Amazon at the moment. So like 11-12 bucks per fan, and better in every way IMO. 120mm P12 pack is $45 right now, for not even $10 per fan. The max variety of both push the price up a but, but those are, as written, their max performance ones and you probably don't need them for anything short of builds where performance is absolute over noise, or for watercooling/AIOs on top of HOT components. I've run P-series non-Max fans on AIOs without issues, so yeah the max series is really for extreme cases. Even so, P14 Max at $80 for a 5-pack is only $16 per fan, and they're up there among the best performing fans up there, which normally cost 22-25per fan and skyrocket to like 40-50 per fan at the high-end.

Case fans? Arctic F12 5-pack 120mm fans are also $45, and are quieter than the P12s but have less static pressure, aka case fans only, not meant for AIOs. And oddly even the Arctic F14 140mm 5-pack is also only $45 right now.

Basically, unless you don't want spares/ or are ever going to build more than 1 PC, grab a couple of boxes of these and you're set. As much as I love Thermalright coolers, their fans are just "meh" imo. Like I said, they're not Bad in any way, I just think the Arctics are better. 🤷‍♂️ YMMV.

I have always thought Arctic was kind of junky. I haven't owned any of their recent products though, just old feelings. Like how I wont buy anything from Corsair.

I mean, those TR fans are like 60cfm at full speed. Can only do so much.. case fans should be at least 80cfm imo.

I have so many of their coolers that I was using the cooler fans in my case in all kinds of positions, and they are fine. Mostly B12 V1 and V2, K12 V2, and some TL-C12 Pro and D14X. Literally no issues. The B14s are actually pretty decent. Not high speed though..

Not a downer. That’s why I ask for input. Pros and cons.

I decided to go with 3x Thermalright TL-C12C 120mm, and 2x TL-C14C 140mm for the front.

Thanks @CMetaphor for the extra input on the Artics, and I did some research into both brands. Seems there's pro and con reviews for both. So in the end I went with price for good enough performance and having all the fans in the build being the same brand, given that the two on the Phantom Spirit will be Thermalright.
