ASUS is having problems with their Routers being turn into Botnets and from the sounds of it updating the firmware doesn't fix the problem.

Updating firmware doesnt fix the problem, but you can removed the setting yourself. Afterwards you can update to a newer firmware that should hopefully have the fix.

Always ASUS... man am I glad my old Asus router is it a box, likely never to be used again. It overheated, throttled and rebooted constantly. Bleh.

I'm glad I switched from ASUS to MikroTik,I don't need a super fancy high end Router and for me what I got tired of was not being able to buy an 89 dollar Router without it burning out in 2 or 3 years which total bullshit.

Once I starting reading about MikroTik and how their stuff will be obsolete before it ever burns out,I read where most people's MikroTik Routers last 14 years and that's what sold me.

Plus they do a lot of updates for their Routers as well and not because they are buggy either.

They aren't as hard to set up as what people let on either I just had to watch a few video's and after that it was extremely easy.

I think the problem with the asus routers was if you enabled the management page from Wan.

I feel lucky with my asus routers when I look at your experiences :p

ill have to check but i just did factory resets as i moved my office around and that was enough to make both the 98 Pro and 96 to decide F me and not want to work lol so reset 8x becuase first 6 didnt take and 7th password i just set refused to work >< im sure i dont have remote features enabled.

Once you do a full reset (hold reset button more than 10 seconds, led will flashes, router reboots), wait a few minutes before trying to login.

You could also update to the last firmware and / or use asuswrt-merlin if your router is supported.

I still have my older Asus router running, but internal acting as a switch in the study/office at this point. I still keep it updated frequently. I'll have to have a look at the things to check though just in case.

That's the problem, every router has a service life, and mine is EOL. No more updates, ever. Even for these exploits, afaik.
Yeh, like no other networking equipment ever had exploits discovered.
Asus has a special reputation with me 😅
