Mine is still getting updates at least, so that helps. That's the problem, every router has a service life, and mine is EOL. No more updates, ever. Even for these exploits, afaik.
Asus has a special reputation with me![]()

I understand that you can't expect a lot for 89 bucks today but back about 8 years ago I had nothing but problems with ASUS Routers in my area burning out, you'd think even back then you'd get 5 to 7 years from a Router but 2 to 3 years is pretty sad.I think the problem with the asus routers was if you enabled the management page from Wan.
I feel lucky with my asus routers when I look at your experiences![]()
I guess there can be bad experiences with every brand. I've had two Asus routers and the one I'm currently using is still working fine after many years of work, and they are still putting out firmware updates for that one at least. Definitely more than 2-3 years.I understand that you can't expect a lot for 89 bucks today but back about 8 years ago I had nothing but problems with ASUS Routers in my area burning out, you'd think even back then you'd get 5 to 7 years from a Router but 2 to 3 years is pretty sad.
Pfsense! Got it currently running on a server -grade board with hardware AES standing by for when full encryption for pfsense comes out of beta (unless it is out? Haven't checked in a while). Either way, you can't go wrong with pfsense. For anything internet facing, you are better off to setup pfsense or opnsense for this. I don't trust (consumer) vendors lately .
Asus makes outstanding motherboards, routers - not so much.
