Agree that it is too early for 8k right now. I sit pretty close to a 43in 4k monitor when at home and I have absolutely no desire for it to be a higher resolution. OLED or higher refresh rates yes... but not higher resolution.

Hardware is already struggling with high refresh 4k. A lot of hardware requires dynamic upscaling (DLSS and such) to keep up. When 120hz@4k can be done with MAINSTREAM hardware without AI upscaling is when 8k will start to make more sense.

The cost of 8k cameras and such just to generate 8k content is a problem in it self without even thinking of computer hardware and the other items they touched on.

Agree that is just too early for many reasons. It will happen for sure, but it’s not going to be overnight.

Not going to even bother reading the article. Considering that even a 4070 just barely gets above 60fps on medium or high settings on most new games, we're just not at the gpu horsepower to hit it yet. If a $900 gpu is struggling to make 4K, it sure isn't 'mainstream' ready.

Hell even for movies, we don't really have full 4K adoption yet. Sure your prestige shows are now 4K (Rings of Power, Disney/Marvel premier content, etc) but tons of new-newish Netflix shows don't even stream at 4K still.
