Not sure if I should post this in GPU or PSU since it's related to both. ASRock is releasing a new 12 2x6 cable with a NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensor. As the temps goes up, the resistance goes down. It only works with ASRock's own PSU but looking at their website, it's not clear how the NTC will tell you something is wrong since the PSU doesn't have any USB connector itself to hook back to the motherboard.

If it is a standard 100K NTC thermistor, then you could plug it in to whole lot of things. My mobo has a thermistor header on it. So other apps could shut down PC if it detects temp being too high.

Not a solution to the actual problem as this is just a very tiny band-aid but at least less likely to be as destructive

Definitely could. Just may need a bit of DIY. That is a XH2.54 connector. So you'd just need an extension cable back to motherboard / fan controller.

But I agree with @Izerous, it is a 'solution' to a problem that shouldn't even exist.

Couldn't you just tape one of those thermistor cables to your 12VHPWR connector too then? I'm sure I have some somewhere... then I guess you'd have to make your computer shutdown if the temperature was too high.

With this PSU implementation, I'm assuming it just kills the power at 105C?
