Asus RT-AX86U tinkering

Hey guys,
Started experiencing issues with my smart home devices a couple weeks ago.. Devices connected to the 2.4ghz band lose connection. Power cycling the router is a temp fix at best. I was thinking of trying Merlin firmware to see if that would help. I'm wondering if the router is shot and messing around with the firmware is a waste of time. The router is about 3 years old with heavy 24/7 usage as we have cameras etc.. Any advice would be appreciated. As the title says, its an Asus RT-AX86U running the latest (non beta) firmware.

Merlin firmware is very good, been using it for the last few years on my Asus routers.

Devices losing connection to 2.4ghz could be interferences on the band. Did you run a wifi survey lately?

Changing the channel could be an easy fix, and disable 40mhz channel bandwith (only using 20mhz).

Thanks for the advise. After troubleshooting a little.. Turns out it was Asus ai protection causing me my issues.

Also: that generation of Asus wireless routers have lots of stability issues in general. I have one and it drops connections occasionally, in spite of multiple attempts at a fix. I think it literally overheats and/or has a hardware defect - aka it cannot be resolved. Glad I mostly replaced mine.
