der8auer reviewed the new Asus RTX 4090 Matrix. TL;DR of the review:

  • Asus is binning chips for this version of the card
  • LM is applied on a bare copper base
  • Marginally faster but cooler
  • TechPowerUp is quoting a MSRP of $3200 USD, which appears to be double of the FE version

Matrix cards have always had a steep price premium over the stock card. Not 2x in the past but they weren't water cooled back then either.

Given the stricter limits on what Nvidia allows for modifications of voltages and such in more recent gents I suspect the actual performance boost is going to be so poorly scaled against the cost increase it's laughable on this one.

HUB also reviewed this card and included the use of different thermal interface. Interesting part is that they tried the Thermal Grizzly Kryosheet and it is only 2 degree C hotter than LM. HUB is quoting a MSRP closer to $4K USD, not sure why there is a difference between the 2 sites.

So IMO, this is a more money than brain product.
  • LM require service eventually just like regular thermal paste
  • But if you know how to take a part a GPU, how hard would it be to build your own loop?
  • The price difference is more than enough to build your own loop which is actually serviceable

I quite like the design of that one.

Now... which bag did I leave that $3,200 USD in again...? It has to be around here somewhere...

Acer prototype seem more traditional but the rad isn't sucking in fresh air from the outside but warmish air inside. I do admit the Asus Matrix is a lot prettier but double the price prettier?

Having a look at the teardown is laughable. For 3000 usd this is what you get? 😂

Well I want it.

But that thought is disregarding price. Once you factor price into it, hell no.

So lets go with the $3200usd price, that's $4292 in canuck money. The MSI Suprim Liquid X is $2550cdn, I'm sorry but in no way, no matter the build quality or temps or anything is the Matrix worth $1742 more. That is literally an extra 4080 worth.
