for file sync I use freefilesync, it can even run in the background to update anything changes from one folder/drive to another been using it now for 2 years and love it

I actually use MS SyncToy and am pleased with the results. It's got enough command line flexibility that it can be scheduled to run by task scheduler (or was it event scheduler? Brain 💨). With it, I can run syncs for various things without even being logged in. 🤷‍♂️

ya you can do the same with freefilesync but I do think you have to be logged in not sure cause I never use it that way, it has its own monitoring system that will change on any schedule you set or you can have it monitor actively to copy changes to any other drives you select.

I wasn't a fan of the MS Sync software but loads of people seem very happy with it

It's really the scheduled tasks running without getting logged in that make it essential IMO. Having to log in and launch an app for simple mirroring would be a bit annoying

Back to AOMEI, I'm fairly sure I will be getting it as it seems to check the most number of boxes for me.

Me too, probably, considering they're selling the lifetime license for $70 US, and have a "buy one, get one free" deal right now, so that's $35/license.....

I actually received an email from Macrium today, where they provided a link to buy their 4-pack, at $140 US, so it's pretty much the same price as AOMEI's Pro version with the Lifetime License, using their 'Buy 1, get 1 Free' deal, which would get you 2 licenses for $70 US.

Ok, since you didn't update this, I'm curious whether or not you actually got AOMEI, or something else, and what are your impressions?

I still haven't picked one of these yet, although I FINALLY downloaded the AOMEI trial today, and have been poking around, and reading the manual.....

LOL, I'm still using my acronis. I am still looking to change and AOMEI is still winning, but I got side tracked by many other things.

Part of it is that it can run with just a windows schedule, unlike the 5 or so services that acronis is running all the time.

I'm half considering upgrading to 11 so might wait until then.

I bought AOMEI and regretted it once I found that the license is for a single PC and locked to the hardware profile similar to how Windows works.

It is? Ugg well that sucks.

See I always end up sticking with Acronis because I know it works and have recovered systems using it for many years. But I really don't like what it has become and it has way too much running in the background, 7 things in task manager right now.

Took a quick look and with a 25% off coupon it is "only" $1,049.25 CAD for a lifetime Tech pro plus super duper extreme (or whatever they call it) license. This lets you install it on unlimited machines including servers with upgrades for life. So while expensive if I was using it for clients and such then it might be worth it.

$825 for the Tech license just without the server side
$75 for the single PC lifetime license (still don't like the locked to hardware profile bit) (They do have a buy 1 get 1 deal, so $105 for 2 licenses)

They also have bundles and this isn't that bad, as long as you plan on using the stuff

AOMEI Backupper Pro (Lifetime Upgrades / 1 PC)
AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro (Lifetime Upgrades / 2 PCs)
MyRecover Pro (Lifetime Upgrades / 1 PC)
FoneTool Pro (Lifetime Upgrades / 5 PCs)
AOMEI OneKey Recovery Pro (Lifetime Upgrades / 1 PC)
MyRecover for iOS (Lifetime Upgrades / 1 PC)

All for $80, so if you were planning on getting the backupper then this is kind of a no brainer. But still mostly locked to a single machine, which sucks.

I really wish they had something like the Tech pro plus plan for features but say only 5 or 10 machines.

Update: I was wrong on that bundle price. It was showing me the US price when the other prices I listed were in Canadian. Actual price is $115.

Part of the license issues around this type of software (for me at least) is that I have zero interest in the backup functionality. All I want is a reliable cloner paired with disk functions required for cloning (like partition management) which works for all PCs.

I recently noticed that AOMEI has a bootable USB tool. If that can be applied to other PCs then I suppose it might be the tool I'm looking for.

I posted on that topic in another thread, a while back, and as I said at that time, I have no issues, so far, with Win 11, and have gotten quite used to it. Unless there's something specific, that's holding you back, I'd think most people would be the same.....

Well, that WAS a concern for me, if buying their Pro "Lifetime" license, so I asked them, and here's a copy & paste of the email response:

"can I remove my license key, un-install the
software, and then install the software on the new computer, and re-use
my license key on that computer? ---------------------Yes, you can contact us to reset your license code so that you can use it again on another computer" (y)

Well, if you click on the Backupper Pro version, and then click on the 'Buy Now' button, you get some interesting options (quoting USD below)..... there is, of course, the 'Yearly' $39.95 version, the 'Lifetime' $69.95, BUT if you look at the right side, they also have a 'Pro Family Lifetime' option at $89.95 for 5 PCs/License, $99.99 for 7 PCs, $119.95 for 10 PCs, and $399 for unlimited PCs. Am thinkin' I might go with the 5 or 7 PCs option.
