BEST Monitor Possible?

The time has come for me to resume my neurofeedback training. In a nut shell it uses a computer to view and track various frequencies and amplitudes of brain wave activity. The changes come about through repetition (which becomes force of habit). So yes I am retuning my own brain.

I want the best possible monitor to help make the process easier. To me the best monitor will be as smooth and fluid as possible. Even if my eyes and conscious mind are unable to appreciate being past the point of diminishing returns, my subconscious mind may. Since I am tuning my brain I feel it is worth while to try and make it as easy as possible with fast, fluid performance of the monitor.

Would I be better off using a CRT monitor or a 144hz high performance LCD monitor? (I may end up trying both). Does NVidia's G-Sync need to be written into a piece of software/game or can it function with any application?

Any thoughts, comments or questions are appreciated. :canadianwave:

If you're going for smoothest/fastest refresh rate, your options are a Korean IPS, an Ovlerlord monitor or the ROG swift. I can't remember if the ROG is a TN panel, if it is, the colors won't likely be as rich as an IPS, but it's supposed to be a great monitor.

Realistically, for what you're trying to do, spending the money won't make an appreciable gain though, and you may just as well aim for a less expensive monitor. Dell's Ultrasharp has some monitors that are highly regarded around here and even some of the staff swear by them IIRC.

There is no 'best' monitor though, pros and cons to each, it comes down to your budget, the size you want and what are your priorities in visual qualities.

But before you spend a bunch of money on 'brain retuning' you might want to read into it a bit more and decided if it's worth the money. Neuro-plasiticity, brain retuning and cognitive acceleration are big buzz words and have a lot of marketing behind them, but the evidence is exceedingly poor. Steven Novella is a Neurologist out of the USA who's written a critical post on the subject with plenty of links and citations if you want to read more into it. But if you're deadset on it, I'd probably say go with the ROG Swift if you have the change and then it's good for twitch gaming at least :thumb:

THANKS FreeKnight. I will be sure to check out Steven Novella's work (even though I am already 'in too deep'). I love learning and seeing different information/points of view.

I believe the ROG swift is a TN panel (though it has very good color for a TN panel from what I read a while ago). I believe I have only ever had TN panels so I am actually happy to 'settle' RE: color quality. I'll have to look at availability later. Most places are sold out, Amazon has a few sellers that have JACKED the price. I'm still frustrated with my decision to buy my 290X above retail though I could consider one still if there would be a full and proper warranty.

I spent about $8000 on hourly Nurofeedback training before deciding to acquire my own gear. Most of that was with Dr Linda Thompson. I had noticed incredible differences with my focus and attention span [my family noticed also]. I spent about $3000 on a neurofeedback device to do the training at home. So at this point I may as well throw some extra cash at the 'best monitor' for the job.

I feel that having what I view to be the 'best monitor' for the job will be helpful - if for no reason other than helping me truly and fully submit and believe in the process - even if it does not otherwise make the process smoother and easier.

The very 1st thing I would consider is color quality and the second would be frequency. Short of playing games color is everything to me when it comes to my other hobbies. Video and picture editing.
