Bringing it back

Hey Canucks

Another observational post:
The RGB craze is still going on but dying down to the classic subdued black/white case builds. As much as I am a fan of all-black builds(this is what my last 4 PC's have been) I still have the case from my first build back when UV lighting was the cool(obnoxious) thing to do. I think you can see where I'm going with this.

For my next build, either fall of 2020 or winter 2021, I'd like to use that original case, and I'd be willing to take input from forum members about how you'd like to see it done up. As you can see there is almost no room for fans(92mm on the front and side panel, 120 on the back) so I'll probably go for a custom external loop. You may notice the cleanly cut holes in the back panel that show how to properly do this. In terms of hardware I will wait and see what is available by the end of the year and typically aim for just a bit below the top of the line hardware. If you happen to have any UV lights or cathodes that still work, feel free to send them my way(SK) or to CptVortex(BC).

Does this make anyone else feel like brining back the crazy early 2000's trends? Personally I'm glad that they all died just like MLG, because like my parents and friends all said back then: Competitive gaming will never catch on.

Thanks, and build on!

Gregoire

I had one with similar arc in it was a https://koolance.com/pc2-901bw-liquid-cooling-system-black that saw many hours of dremel and other tooling done to it. At one point I cut all the arcing plastic out of the front and replaced with metal mesh that was still boxed so it fit the same way and stuch out at the bottom, tinted window, cut the openign in the top larger to fit a larger shrouded rad that took 120mm fans. There wasn't much of it left when I finally retired it and replaced it with the 800D which I had kept running for years as well.

The problem I had at the time with this style of case was actually the depth with clearance issues between the HDD "cage" structure and the length of more modern video cards that were coming out like the 6990s I picked up at the time.

Love how older watercooling was essentially just off the shelf automotive products with some custom PCB to convert the power.
I ended up switching to a 750D that I only just recently sold to a friend.
Looking at the HDD cage it can be easily removed by drilling out the large rivets. But I'm leaving in that case speaker. Why don't cases come with speakers anymore? Don't people know morse code or atx mobo codes?
Do mobo's even have atx speaker outputs anymore?

Built in speakers and 2 digits LCD displays kinda made the external speaker irrelevant. Co-Workes computer just failed last week recorded the LCD display as it would when it failed read 00 and beep endlessly (Gigabyte? board). Thanks 00 is completely undocumented and means just about anything. But the code right before the 00 told me it was reading the HDDs right before it entered its deathly state. Disconnected the HDD used a bootable USB and worked fine. Far easier doing that then trying to deal with bios beep codes.

I do recall playing music over the speaker on a couple occasions or dos games but wow was that bad looking back on it.

Indeed, but you don't get that satisfying POST beep. All I get on my current setup is all the fans ramping up to 100% on start before the profiles activate. I suppose that sounds a bit cool...

Can't really see it in the pictures but the panel has stuff drawn on with highlighter. That light's up nice under UV.
I'll have to accent bits of the hardware with UV reactive paint/marker.

I did see a motherboard where the owner drew on every trace with a highliter. Under UV lights it did look quite amazing actually.

I Just noticed that the case has rust on it. I'm thinking I'll paint the entire interior flat black to help out with accenting anything that glows
