[QUOTE="headsh0t, post: 478032, member: 5477"] Well here in Winnipeg, there are basically 2 options for internet - Shaw and MTS. Shaw is also the only other home phone provider other than MTS and they both have TV service as well. I'd say the competition between those two is pretty intense. You also have the option of satellite for TV as well. To the East, as well as the West, there are more companies like Telus, Bell, Rogers, Eastlink, Tekksavvy, Videotron, and more so I don't think there is really a lack of competition. The thing is our country is so huge, and our population is so small that the cost to build their infrastructure compared to how much customer they have in one area to make money off of is alot worse than say somewhere in Korea or China where there are tons of people living in a centralized area so they can afford to have low rates. Same thing goes for cell phones, there are plenty of carriers out there and more are coming. What ISP's need to stop doing is being such douches with their bandwidth caps. Maybe cap upstream bandwidth or something and raise up DOWNLOAD (downstream!) caps to prevent p2p? Maybe sell base high speed internet packages with even lower download caps then they are now (depending how LOW your current cap is) and then sell extra bandwidth to the people who need it for a REASONABLE price? Something like $10/100GB, $20/200GB? <<< Although not likely to happen because most people do not come close to their bandwidth cap anyways already. CRTC is definitely a problem though. It is kind of sickening to know it has ex chairmen of different companies in the industry. If they were supposed to be helping out the Canadian public they should be setting limits as to how much ISP's can charge us for bandwidth instead of creating laws saying that they can charge us for extra bandwidth.
