Someone say HSPC Tech Station??

Someone say mess?

Recently cleaned up, prep'ing for an extended work bench that will go all the way to that wall.

Yes, there was a couch under those boxes lol.

Many of the boxes actually had parts in them, most of them empty or protecting ones that were full. A few months worth of deliveries for sure.

I plan to ditch the book collection and put a larger shelf against the wall, to store spare parts.

Anyone want to buy a science fiction collection? LOL. :punk:

Shot of the left side of the room where the current bench is, with two systems on it.

It's bigger than it looks, I can actually fit three systems on that bench when I move all my tools and stuff out of the way -- two running on a KVM and one I'm up to my elbows in.

I was going to ask if the cat in the window was real, but I can see the ears poking out above the boxes in the "messy" picture so I'm assuming it isn't.... :)

Recently buttoned up this little baby!

Budget Clocker:

XFX nForce 650i Ultra
Intel E2160 Allendale 1.8ghz 800mhz FSB 1mb
CPU Heatsink Fan: Scythe Ninja Plus Rev B
2 x 512mb G.Skill PC-26400 PK's
EVGA 6800GS 256mb DDR3 PCI-e
WD Caviar 80gig 7200rpm 2mb PATA
CDRW
Asus TA-863 Mid Tower Black case - 120mm intake, 2x 80mm exhaust
FSP Fortron Sparkle 400 watt ATX 2.0 power supply

Approximate cost with the above spec without the Ninja: $520

Premium package with a 7600GT vid, sata2 HD, DVDRW, and including the Ninja: $610 approx

Just primed it last night at 2.7ghz (300fsb) at stock volts, for ~12 hours. Will bench it today, I'm not expecting any fantastic numbers with that vid and the current speed, but it is pretty dang fast already when compared to an AMD X2.

She's still got a lot of room to move, hopefully will scale nicely when I start adding voltage.

With the case all closed up and ambient room temp at 25C, temps look great. It's running on the P02 bios which is reported to be indicating temps around 5 to 10 degrees under reality, but I didn't see any change when I updated. However, my cpu temps being below ambient prove otherwise.

Idle: 22-25C
Load: 40-47C max reported by system, and 55-62 max reported by Core Temp.

If Core Temp is correct, I may hit a temperature limit before the cpu or mobo limit. (I've got a better fan to put on the Ninja though, mohahah!) :punk:

It was the second board to grace the HSPC Tech Station posted above.

What impresses me the most, is that it seems to be running (and clocking) fine on that little Sparkle 400 watt PSU! I had another system in that Asus case, I pulled it out and stored it for now, because I wanted to see if this 650i would barf on a 400w PSU. It seems completely happy, and so am I. They are very reasonably priced, and a good solid PSU for the money. It lets me chip a good chunk of $ off the cost of building one of these. Once I top the system out, I think I'll put it back on the OCZ 600 watt and see if it goes any farther -- just to see if the PSU is limiting it in any way.

Here she is in the Asus TA-863 (El-Cheapo but fridgid) case:

did someone say messy basement?

and yes, the ECS mobo in the front is passing memtest with flying colors. the HSPC has the defective XFX mobo and the swiftech kit in it.

looks like it's RMA time....

Heheh, nope, it's cast iron. Bit of a story behind it.

We had a cat just like it, black as the night. Lived for nearly 20 years, and was quite a close buddy for me. He used to sit in the window, just like that, looking outside.

We got the cast years ago when we still had the cat, and I sware I would constantly do a doubletake every time I saw the casting, thinking it was our cat.

The cat past away about a year ago, and we all still miss him very much. But I no longer do a doubletake when I see the casting.

I don't think we will ever get rid of that casting, or move it from that window, even if we get another cat.

I have a hard drive named after that cat: Casper.

He used to reach up to the front door knocker, and flip it with his paw when he wanted in the house. It would freak guests out, because they would hear someone knock at the door but see no one through the front door window. Priceless!

Yay me! I feel total vidication now for suggesting it was a motherboard problem, hehe. Im glad youve figured out the problem  and i wont go into "i-told-you-so's" with anyone. Good luck with the RMA!

I totally conceed that!

Like I tell my wife (or anyone else rude enough to comment on the pile of boxes I let accumulate there), it was organized chaos!

I actually knew exactly where any of the parts were that were in any of the boxes. It was all stuff I knew I wouldn't need immediately.

When I pulled it all out, I sorted through and repacked much of it, lables on the boxes, and neatly stacked in a corner of a spare kitchen we have in the basement here, ready to go back in there once I have some bigger shelves in place.

For now, I still have to get in there with a vacuume, then go pick up the countertop a buddy has for me that will fit from that wall to my current bench -- real nice solid wood piece. Looking forward to it, stuff like this simply doesn't happen fast enough for me, nowhere near enough time in the day for my to-do lists!
