Combining Video files and editing software recommendations?

Hi, I got some old files from a friends cam recorder and its in a mess. She wants me to combine the files, after looking at it there are a lot of leg scenes too, looking to cut them out and put it on a DVD.

I need a easy to use and preferably open source for a video editor and a combine software. If cash will give better quality willing to spend around $100 for software.

The video files are in MOD file, around 80 files taking over 17gb. :shok:

Opps what I meant is the camera keep aiming at the ground and all you see are legs and ankles. :haha:h34r:

you can always get started with windows movie maker I believe.
