Comment Thread for Sapphire HD 5970 2GB OC Review

I'm lost. What's the significance of the circled portions on that Fermi card? I mean other than the fact that they show the differences between a mock-up and a running card...

Thats all the point was. :haha: Don't look too deep into it, I just lol'ed at the "Hacksaw Limited Edition" text, and thought it was interesting the difference, supposedly the mock up was 9.5", so I wonder what length the actual thing is.

Hey sky is the 5970 about as powerful as GTX 260 TRI-SLI? I think it might be. If so and there are some good deals then I probably will go get one and sell my 3.

So does anyone have ancedotes about the supersampling in the ATI drivers for cards like this? I heard it was sketchy when the 5000 series first came out but I wonder if it's improved much since then.

I'm leaning towards waiting for the Fermi stuff since I'm more of an Nvidia fan, but reliable supersampling in the official drivers interests me greatly nowadays seeing as how (a) cards tend to be wasting tons of their power anyways; and (b) a growing number of games don't support multisampling AA at all, and using unofficial tools like Nhancer for supersampling have unreliable results.

I know this thread has already ended so so long ago, but i will still try (because the card is only more available now), and what I really really wanted to know,
is HD 5970 a (2 x 5870 or 2 x 5850 or neither) what is it?
I can't find a straight answer anywhere, I just have to try the experts, its my last chance of getting an answer. Thank you for your time.

It's two 5870 GPUs running at the speed of a 5850. They have the full amount of shaders, but they run at a frequency of 725MHz instead of 850MHz like the 5870.

That said, it only performs about equal to 2 x 5850s, even with the extra stream processors. Drivers might improve the scaling, but who knows...
