Computer is rebooting

Hello HWC,

A friend who is about 3 hours from me is having problems. His computer is rebooting continually before the bios screen

any idea's?

It won't even get to the bios screen. So F8 does nothing

Then you have hardware that has failed. Depending on how competent this person is make sure EVERY device is unplugged from the computer.. mouse, keyboard, usb drivers, usb keys and leave monitor plugged in and see what happens.

If that doesn't change anything then your going to have to start opening the case and unplugging things like optical drives and hard drives and see if anything changes.

From there it becomes a mainboard, ram, or power supply issue.

you have to go by the beep codes hook up the moherboard speaker if it isn't already hooked up and then boot count the beeps if long or short and the amounts then look up the code this should tell you what is going on.

If system was overclocked you can reset cmos by jumolpers or pull battery then press hold power button for 10 seconds to drain remaining power put battery back in see if that lets you into bios. If not like shadowmeph says its pulling 1 part at a time Inc memory sticks.

My guess is that it's a gigabyte board that's experiencing the cold boot loop. If so time for a new motherboard.
