Corrupted HDD

Hey guys, I'm back demanding more advice from ya

So my friend has a Dell laptop which, one day when he came home and turned it on, had a big crack in the screen near the base. Not a physical crack, kinda looks like there was a power surge and it blew some circuits. Not positive on that though and thats not the problem. All he wants in the data off the HDD.

So I've tried booting my laptop up to it and it says that it is too corrupted to boot. So I tried booting up to my HDD and then hotswapping to see if it'll read anything off of it. But no luck. It says the files on the HDD are too corrupted to read. So I'm not quite sure what to do to get the data off his hard drive.

Any advice/tips will be greatly appreciated! Thanks again guys, to date, you've solved all of my computer troubleshooting problems :thumb:
