COVID is proving itself to be quite worrisome.

as time passes and people recover from the most acute effects of COVID, long term secondary effects are being tracked and collated. I have read many articles on the host of issues long COVID with a number of particular focuses as the study matter.

for those of you on here that had COVID, how has your recovery been? anyone with long COVID issues nagging at you?

My mom was the youngest of 7, I have quite a few aunts, uncles, cousins etc. One of my uncles (middle child) it has torn through almost all of my relatives. But due to the size of my family I don't talk directly to most of them anymore so this is all second/third hand etc.

One of my oldest cousins basically lost his taste for nearly a full year before it started to come back.
Oldest Aunt passed from it.
He also mentioned taste and smell was delayed coming back to some of the others.

My mother-in-law has been a couple of months now since being hospitalized. She definitely experienced cognitive and memory issues that lasted longer than her primary symptoms, but is almost back to her old self now.

We're certainly hoping that is as long as her COVID effects last. It was pretty bad. She'd repeat things she just told you without even a hint of knowing she had just said it. And she didn't have any cognitive issues at all prior to getting COVID.

I love these kinds of studies. Any of my coworkers (who I know fairly well) that had covid also had at least 2 shots, and interestingly that article doesn't mention whether having had a shot or not affects the outcome of long covid. I always thought it would. But they all have recovered just fine and are back at work like nothing happened. They are all under the age of 50 as well.

My dad is 77 and says he's recovering from covid now but with all his underlying health conditions I'd have a hard time confirming the cause of a long term effect.

I will say that this is the first time in my life that I researched the legitimacy of a website before going to it and reading anything there.

I'm not sure if the definition of long COVID has changed, but my understanding is not everyone gets or deals with it.

NewAtlas is a website that compiles articles of all topics....the actual source of the material is the University of Cambridge. I don't think legitimacy is a concern here. at least on the data...how it's being interpreted is a different story as data can be made to say whatever anyone wants now-a-days.

Yeah that is my understanding too, and I thought at one point earlier in the pandemic I read that it was thought to affect younger people more than older people, but I don't have my source handy for that. Just something I read on a news site during Internet wanderings.

I'm shocked how many new people I hear about through coworkers who have had it or have it now. I guess it's par for the course, just getting my head around it took a while. Young kids/adults stop socializing indoors! 🤬
