It's about time for an update on the Counter Strike Server that I promised a while back.
I still don't have all the parts for a server yet, but I should be up and running sometime in August. It's taken a while to find parts for a good price, but after patiently waiting I have a very good deal coming up. All I have to do is spend a day building and setting up a system for an office and I get some parts as payment. (P4 3.0Ghz, Random AOpen S478, Case and PSU), so all I need is some PC3200 ram and a Hard drive and the server will be in business!
You should be able to expect the server going online sometime during mid August.
I should be able to host a few games before then, if there is enough demand. I finally got my laptop back from my sister and am now installing linux, so I may have a test server up sometime today if all goes well. I love live Cd's.
I have limited time to set everything up because my summer job at a local computer shop keeps me quite busy. 10am - 6pm 5-6 days a week, and I bus so that's another 45mins (both ways) away from the internet:sad:
I have a few questions for those of you who would want to play on the server.
Does anyone have any amount of experience with setting up CS:S servers?
What game types / mods would you like on the server? (ie. Gun games, Zombie mod, surf, just Death Match)
Who is responsible enough to be secondary head admin? (you will have remote access to all server functions, hopefully, full admin privileges, etc.) I don't want just anyone doing this because I need to be able to trust them completely.
Feel free to PM me or post any other input you have! I'm always open to new ideas for running the server, etc.
My idea for the future of the server is to have reserved slots for 10/month for outsiders (5/ month for HWC members) and admin privileges for 15/month (10/ month for HWC members), this would be to pay for a dedicated internet connection for the server, upkeep and power usage.
The guys at NCIX tried this with a BF2 server and things did not go over so well, but things were complex and confusing. I would like to keep it simple and well thought out.
I'll update this post as time passes and I get closer to having the server up and running. I'm looking forward to hearing your input.:canadianwave:
