I see this as good and bad. first, good because it helps establish a benchmark that will become familiar / easy to program / easy to use. bad...because once their tech has taken off and been adopted by the industry, they will do a 180 and then tell everyone that their tech must now be licensed.

What they say doesn't matter until each developer get to sign an EULA that also have a clause that say EA can't go back on their words. Otherwise you can't prevent them from updating the EULA and then give you 90 days to pay them.
