Eidos releases titles with Steam

As much as I hate steam (and I really do - it's nearly impossible to keep up with the updates and downloads with dial-up), it slows down pirating which threatens to drive developers away from working with the PC platform, as we have seen this past week- although if they all turned to steam, I might be forced to abandon gaming on the PC platform :biggrin: .

I simply just love Steam. You get access to so much with it and IMO it's really well build. Oh and i have Extreme High speed with cable :bleh:

I am also a big fan of steam and will continue to purchase titles from them. If you scratch your retail CD or DVD, they carry a backup. (happenned to me, half-life2 platinum edition) Game piracy is also a big issue. I admit, I'm no angel. I have downloaded pirated games before. Though lately, when I think of all the people on all the teams in all the different departments, creating a game for me to enjoy, 40$-70$ isn't that big a deal. Especially for top-shelf games that sometimes take YEARS to get to market. A lot of time, money and effort go into these games and I think it's only fair that I play my part and support these artists. I would love to see Crysis and Alan Wake available on steam.

P.S. The only thing holding steam back, is the fact that they don't accept paypal. If they were to change this policy, I predict a dramatic increase in sales.

Do they provide a full iso of the game that will install on its own without needing to connect to their servers (after you dl it of course).

One of my concerns is the same as I have for purchasing music on-line.

If the provider goes into receivership or if your license gets buggered up, you don't have a back-up.

You have to log into Steam at some point regardless of how you want to do things. You can "backup" the game to a CD and install it later, but you still need to login in order for Steam to verify that you own the game.

One thing I wish they'd do is allow people to add games they already own, to their Steam list for "easy access". That would come with a huge range of problems, but I can dream.

Really the only reason I hate is, like I said, the slow dialup- I have a new computer now and playing this game is pretty much out of the question now as I can't possibly download all the updates that it seem to insist that you do before you are allowed to play (both to steam and to the game) Are you saying there's a way around this?
