Anyone running their own email server? Existing threads all seem pretty old.

Noticed tonight that gmail and my alumni forwarding address seems to have stopped playing nicely sometime ago. Quick google search led me to hMailServer. Any other suggestions?

I gave up years ago, ISPs block all of the ports needed these days. Plus all the security side of it, managing spam lists etc. Backups. Fault tolerance if your connection or server goes down etc, need a dedicated IP.

A cheap hosting account gives you all you need for a few dollars a month (Quite literally — namecheap shared hosting is 2$ CAD/month on promo). Not worth the time to do your own IMO

Same thing just not worth the effort when corporate accounts are as cheap as $2/mo for each account kind of thing. Company isn't 100's of people so overhead is pretty small having someone else host it even at that corporate level
