Just watched one of Rossmann's video. Someone RMA a EVGA PSU and it came back with different pinout for the same model and fried his drives.
  • EVGA said not to send the cables back with PSU
  • PSU came back with no documentation or notification about different pinouts for SATA cables
  • User plugged in the PSU and fried all his drives
  • Basically, it's the same exact model but some where down the line the pinout was changed at certain manufacturing date

EDIT: the pin comment for the video mentioned it happened to them as well 2 years ago on a GQ series.

That's a bit crazy. I wonder if they changed OEM for that line of PSUs along the way, or if it was a requested change (maybe for alignment between other lines)?

But now that I said it's crazy, I don't think I am surprised. EVGA has SOOOO many PSU OEMs and models, it would be pretty easy for issues to slip in compared to other companies who have a much more reasonable amount of models. They really should streamline and focus IMO...I don't understand the logic of having so many competing models within their own lineup.

That was the first scenario that came to my mind, and (IMO) the most likely. This is a glaring example of why manufacturers should be required to change model name when/if they change sourcing of significant components.
