His left hand fingers obscure the placement.

indeed. I've been watching a War Thunder player on YT and he's constantly commented on hearing an enema tank to the left or right, etc.. what's more interesting is that he's driving a tank...so really, he shouldn't be able to hear anything, LoL!
In my case to be more specific I could hear people through walls so I got a couple through wall kills and was accused of using wall hacks. I honestly had the headphones on in a demo booth for maybe 10 seconds before I was convinced by the audio location possibilities. Someone was playing left4dead and a car was thrown and slid by him and it sounded like a car sliding from in front of me to behind me.
You'll see another guy in this video around the 12 minute mark. He's the one who totalled a new Ferrari and a van when they caught fire on a dry cornfield and laughed about it. I quit the video at that point. These guys have deep pockets...
