Microsoft catalog update, works great. Type the hardware in the search box, add the drivers to the basket and download them when done. You'll probably get several results with your search. click on the file to see the description. Intel x64 users want to download the amd64 drivers, not the ia64, those are for itaniums.

Microsoft Update Catalog

Got my HP deskjet drivers for x64 Win 7, yay.

I really never trust MS for updating drivers but I guess this is good in a pinch.
the one thing that I don't like about windows 7 is that it does this automatically when you first start up the Operating system which can be a bit of a hassle when you have a ATI card and you boot up and win7 installs drivers that are a little out dated you have to download updated drivers and then uninstalled the drivers that win7 installed reboot try to stop win7 from reinstalling the same old drivers again hehe it is a bit of a hassle. but like I said this is good in a pinch

Find MISSING drivers. We all know what to do for Video and sound etc...

I looked for weeks for a driver for my HP 3420 printer. HP says to pull them off the vista cd, they don't have 64 bit. I don't have a Vista CD. Win7 currently has a very limited hardware selection, this is the answer.
