There is a REAL concern about orbital debris. Idiots blowing up satellites is not helping. If things continue status quo we might not be able to get off this rock ever...by we I mean humanity,

Edit: Way off topic,

There is an older video of a simulated fly-through of Valles Marineris, or Mariner Valley on Mars. Almost 5 miles deep. It's much larger than Grand Canyon - it stretches about 3,000 miles/4828.032 Km - the distance from New York to Los Angeles.

Flight into (Valles Marineris) Mariner Valley HD - about 4 minutes

You can download much higher rez versions in various formats here:

we've been polluting our solar system for decades. heck, we've managed to lob stuff into interstellar space too!

for earth, they should figure out a way to deploy a net, do several orbits to gather debris and then power off to crash in the sun.

Apparently going in toward the sun is more difficult than going out. I was watching a NASA TV show on the Parker Solar Probe and they were discussing this issue.

I agree that something has to be done about orbital debris.

I think the issue with going towards the sun is ensuring everything survives...if it's being slagged, not so big an issue?

also, I saw an article headline somewhere about an agency trying to push through the idea that everythign else that goes up into LEO has to have the ability to de-orbit itself after 5 years.
