It works,
assuming you have a 1.3+ port on the video card and cable that supports the bandwidth. I tested a 1.4 cable with a 3080 which seems to output @ 1440p 144hz HDR 4:4:4 plenty fine without any flickering or washed colors etc... Despite the monitor claims Display port 1.2 spec.

The interesting part is claims that 1.2 does not support HDR, I would assume this applies mainly the the GPU's output and cable bandwidth.

Displayport is not an all or nothing standard. The manufacturers can pick and choose which parts they want to support. It seems that when you have a monitor that has HDR but says Displayport 1.2 it typically refers to the new transmission speeds available with the new version. You will find that your output will be '8 bit with dithering' in the 'advanced display settings' in the windows display settings when HDR is turned on since there isn't enough bandwidth over the supported modes, while if you reduce your refresh to 120 hz you will get full 10 bit. See what happens.
