That seems a bit pricey for a 4060, but I suppose the 2tb + 32GB adds a fair bit of value. There's also a discrepancy between the title specs and the description which lists it as 16GB/1TB, and it's a third party seller so I'd be a bit leery.

As a reference, I got my Lenovo LOQ 4060 for about $1K, but that was 16/512GB. One of the benefits to the Lenovo LOQ line is that their baseline screen is 400 nits / 100% sRGB which is above average for that price point.

I'd personally wait for black friday sales. Chances are you'll get a decent 4060 model for a lot closer to $1K.

edit: Keep an eye out on RFD's computer hot deals threads

Actually.... based on the last few years, you won't have to wait quite that long as everybody seems to be having Pre-Black Friday sales in order to get a jump on the competition.

I agree with sswilson...wait for the holiday specials. also, I'd recommend going with a Lenovo LOQ or Legion. Lenovo has authorized service partners all over which gives you easy walk-in access for support. MSI and Asus both require you to ship to a depot, no walk-in locations. Lenovo, Dell and HP all offer warranty upgrades that include next business day (NBD) options, but MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, etc, do not, only mail-in.

source: I've been selling IT for 16 years now and very familiar with the service landscape in Canada.

Don’t really have anything to add that hasn’t been said. The laptop you linked seems good, but is too expensive. Hold.

As others mentioned with BF coming up I'd consider waiting.

Might be worth looking at the prices at Memory Express as well as they've had some decent laptop deals in the past.

I'd also ask does your kid need a laptop? If it's just going to be parked at their desk at home, you're probably going to get a lot more bang for your buck in a desktop. I know when I was in university my laptop basically never went anywhere with me as I quickly got tired of lugging it and a power brick around.

My Son already has a Desk-top, He wants a laptop for the cottage and school work.

generally speaking, a laptop best for school would be much different than a laptop good for the cottage. for school you want something light and power efficient for long battery life while for the cottage, you want a desktop replacement, aka, something much like a gaming laptop.

what stage of education are they at? elementary, high or post-secondary? for elementary and high, they should consider getting a Chromebook and for the cottage, etc., a gaming laptop. with a $1600 budget, it is possible to get two decent devices. example...the new Lenovo Duet 9th gen, will likely go for around $400 during BF and as shared earlier, getting a Lenovo LoQ with a RTX 4060 around $1000 is likely.

if it's post-secondary, then what they're taking should dictate whether a gaming laptop is worth it because they are big, heavy, hot and run out of power fast. it makes the logistics of using one on campus a lot more difficult than it needs be. unless they're taking something that requires mobile workstation specs, which a gaming laptop would fill with ease.
