Came across a couple of links about this Trump made mess... one on shipping/supply lines; one on pc makers

Shipping and supply line shortages: Are US Ports Empty and What Impact Does the Tariff Have on Global Shipping?

On tech companies shifting to Arabia: Trump tariffs push top PC makers Lenovo, HP, and Dell toward Saudi Arabia

last place I would have thought of would be Saudi Arabia. very interesting to see where that goes.

I made it through to the end over the course of 2 days lol

All the news I've seen this week doesn't look like any reassurance is being provided, it's another week of wild headlines with varying degrees of tariffs. The market's are pumping though?

Even if all the tariffs were cancelled tomorrow, we still aren't going to see the impact of "today" until mid-summer I suppose based on the comments in the video from these companies.

I know Steve asked them all about the "move production to America" aspect but I feel that wasn't the best answered. It seemed like these companies saw no way to being able to manufacture in America. I suppose what was missing was a MAGA-supporting business to get that contrasting viewpoint. All the people interviewed seemed to have the same sort of general consensus.

I seriously wonder if they can even find one in the PC domain. Funny now it's rumor the OEM is going to Middle East instead of going back to US, that says a lot about the delulu MAGA is under. Forgot who exactly in the admin but he went on the news to say thousands of American would be screwing in the tiny screws in iPhones in the future. Then within 30 seconds say there will be automation. So there won't be any massive jobs created, just hundreds of engineers? Consider a lot of MAGA is in the rust and coal belt with 3rd world country level of education, they will never get those engineering jobs relating to automation.

Given the massive dishonesty in the MAGA crowd, I don't know that even if you found a MAGA computer business, how could you trust they were being honest about planning on moving to the states.

It was Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick making the screws comment. I'll reserve my personal comment about that guy.

ā€œThe army of millions and millions of human beings screwing in little, little screws to make iPhones, that kind of thing is going to come to America,ā€ Lutnick said on Sunday during an interview with CBS’s Face the Nation. ā€œIt’s going to be automated.ā€

It's going to depend on the industry and the scarcity of items. The auto industry in North America is quite fine tuned for production, so that any disruption is a problem. i.e. Stelantis shut down a Windsor auto plant for 2 weeks just with the threat of tariffs.
https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/articles/78344/production-resumes-at-stellantis-windsor-plant/

Globally, it's as they say in the video, assembling something with hundreds and thousands of parts that come from all over the planet could easily be an issue for assembly lines. Just one critical part missing means a line stopped.

IMO it's the uncertainty that's going to be a major factor - downsizing orders; trying to find alternative sources, shipping/expediting issues, intentionally created shortage to gouge, etc.

I use to be a custom's broker (last century LOL) Ford Motor was one of our customers - they'd go to a lot of effort/costs to keep the line going - fly in small parts or exclusive use for a transport to move larger parts. At one time I was doing the importing for an aircraft manufacturer in Canada. Instead of shipping a large component by rail as usual, Lockheed had a Guppy (oversized aircargo aircraft) fly in to pick it up to keep a production line going.

Far too many of these North American corporations are not going to switch to higher cost labour anytime soon - they'll continue to farm out work to the cheapest labour cost and/or any tax benefits elsewhere:

Apple ā€˜aims to source all US iPhones from India’, reducing reliance on China
The complex manufacturing process behind iPhones involves more than 1,000 components sourced from all over the world – albeit they are largely put together in China. Apple is secretive about details of its production processes but analysts estimate that about 90% of its iPhones are assembled in the country.

This whole thing is about uncertainty, no one actually can totally confirm anything , and since I have no control whatsoever on any of it I do my best to not worry about it too much because again I have no control over any of it and any say that IO may say wont do much if anything at all.
once a week I go through videos on all of this and its mostly hear say gossip nothing confirming things, it to me is much like a sales person that talks around the subject or misdirects the person to keep them interested but not on the important broken parts and then when asked about those broken parts the word play comes in even worse. Again like what has already been mentioned earlier in this thread it will take a while to feel the full effects of any of this and if it ever gets straightened out it will stake even longer to feel the correcting parts of all of this .
